Food and Wine

Nothing captures the essence of international travel quite like local food and drink. Regional specialties and local delicacies define a country like nothing else. Traditional recipes, passed down through the generations, provide an added element of pride in the local cuisine. Somehow, it all seems to taste better when sampled on home soil.

Long before globalization, people ate what was locally grown and seasonally available. Head to India for spices; Italy for pizza; France for rich patés; England’s villages for meat pies and cheeses, and Australia for New World wines.

A clue to where food and drink originated can often be found on the map. Porto and Madeira gave their names to the fortified wines they are famous for. Genuine champagne still has to originate in the Champagne region of northwest region France. Enjoying a glass of champagne, brandy or wine will take on new significance after touring the region’s vineyards and underground cellars.

For foodies, there is no better inspiration for travel than eating your way around the world. Sample, sip and learn at every delicious destination.
