    Lima Guided Tour

    This day in Lima kicks off with a walking tour focused on local culture and history. You will be collected from your hotel to begin the tour in the Miraflores market. Here, Peruvian vendors showcase the region's produce, various types of potatoes, corn, and fruits grown in Peru. Samples, including coca leaves are available for tasting. Following the market visit, the tour heads to the historic center to admire the grand colonial buildings. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish, Lima's historic center has served as a seat of government and an important indigenous hub. Wealthy families resided here until the 1940s. The walking tour winds through the historic center, allowing you to observe the changing architectural styles and admire the beautiful interior balconies. Upon reaching Plaza San Martin, try some delicious Peruvian pastries. The main square features a ChocoMuseum outlet, where guests can learn about chocolate making and enjoy a tasting. The tour concludes at Cordano Bar with a taste of Chicha Morada, a traditional Peruvian drink made from purple corn.     In the morning, there is a private transfer from your hotel to the airport to continue on your Peruvian voyage.. Upon arrival in Cusco, our local representative will greet you and take you to your next hotel. As you are arriving from lower altitude, we would recommend spending your first day in Cusco relaxing, and getting accostomed to the altitude before doing anything overly physical. Your hotel is located in the historical center and within walking distance of Plaza de Armas, the main square of Cusco. Cusco has plenty to offer, busy traditional markets, grand colonial architecture, rich archeological history, relaxed café's, beautiful surrounding scenery and much more.     Cusco Markets & History

    This day in Cusco starts with a visit to the local market, showcasing the variety of vegetables, breads, and fruits grown in the region. The tour then continues to the Cusco Cathedral, housing over 400 Cusco School paintings and beautiful altars. Next stop is Koricancha, a religious center significant to the Inca in both geography and politics. Originally the Temple of the Sun, Koricancha translates to "golden enclosure" in Quechua. A short walk uphill leads to the San Blas artisan quarter, known for its religious paintings and workshops where artisans can sometimes be observed working. In the afternoon there is a visit to the archaeological sites nearby. These include Sacsayhuaman, the Royal House of the Sun, one of the greatest Inca stone monuments; Qenqo, a well-known Inca temple; Tambomachay, an Inca sanctuary dedicated to water and once reserved for royalty; and Puka Pukara, a "Reddish Fortress" named for the soil color and believed to have been a residential area.

    The Andean Baroque Route winds passed four temples, one in Cusco and three in the South Valley, linking the Inca capital with the Madre de Dios jungle and Lake Titicaca. This historical trade route, predating the Incas, facilitated the transportation of valuable commodities like gold, silver, coca leaves, and animal fibers, with archaeological sites like Tipon and Rumicolca lining its path.     A full day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Inca, following the route of the Vilcanota River, , check out the impressive terraces, and archaeological sites.     Rural Tourism Weaving Workshop

    This morning, travel to Ollantaytambo town. The scenic drive through the Patacancha Valley features Inca terraces, waterfalls, and traditional farming practices. A highlight of the tour is the visit to the Patacancha and Huilloc communities, renowned for their weaving traditions. This excursion offers a hands-on experience of Andean culture with a weaving workshop. In Patacancha, visit the Awamaki Weaving Center to see the complete weaving process, from shearing wool to making garments with natural dyes. Learn about the tools used by the artisans. Try weaving your own bracelet with help from a local craftsperson - make your own souvenir to take home! After the workshop, you can enjoy a home-cooked meal made by a local weaver. Lunch includes soup and a main course. There will be time to wander around and buy some garments directly from the artisans. Before returning to the hotel, there is another stop to explore Ollantaytambo's ancient fortress which overlooks the town.     Train to Machu Picchu

    After breakfast, you will leave Urubamba for the journey to Machu Picchu. Boarding the Hiram Bingham train from the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes shaves 2 hours off what normally is a 4-hour journey from Cusco, beginning at the most beautiful part of the stretch, leaving from Ollantaytambo. The Hiram Bingham train has a glass viewing dome, with large windows allowing you to see from the peaks of the Andes as they fall down into the flowing rivers on the valley floor, all from the 1st Class comfort of your seat. We recommend an early night, in order to set off before sunrise to capture the magic of Machu Picchu.

    Machu Picchu and Cusco

    To reach Machu Picchu there is a very early departure from your hotel to get to the national park as soon as it opens in time to witness the morning clouds lift off the ruins and experience the site's true mystique. Your guide will take you to the best spot to catch the breathtaking moment when the sun rises above the surrounding mountains, lighting up this iconic mountain. After this momentous photo opportunity, there is an extended tour of Machu Picchu, when your guide will explain all you need to know about the history, surrounding areas and sacred legend of Machu Picchu. There is a stop for a gourmet lunch provided by the Sanctuary Lodge at Machu Picchu and then it is time to hit the road again.. Taking the train from Aguas Calientes you'll pass through the dramatic landscape of the Sacred Valley throughout your journey to Cusco. Having acclimatized to the altitude the last few days, Cusco's altitude (11,150ft. above sea level) should be no problem at all at this point, allowing you to really get out and enjoy the town this evening, or get some rest at one of our lovely boutique hotels in Cusco.
