    Travelling to Sacred Valley

Today a full-day tour explores the Sacred Valley of the Incas, following the Vilcanota River. In the morning, you will fly to Cusco and then onward by private transfer to the Sacred Valley. Your first stop is the Pisac market, a popular spot for handicrafts like textiles, ceramics, and jewelry. You can visit the market any day, but Sundays offer a unique experience with a Quechua mass and local authorities participating in the festivities. The tour then proceeds to the Pisac ruins, an impressive archaeological site overlooking the Urubamba Valley. This strategically positioned citadel served as a gateway between the Inca Empire and the eastern jungles. Exploring the ruins provides insight into the Inca civilization's advancements in construction and agriculture. After lunch, the tour continues to Moray and Maras. At Moray, you'll discover how the Incas utilized large natural depressions to create irrigated farming terraces with distinct microclimates. These terraces resemble modern greenhouses and showcase the Incas' sophisticated agricultural knowledge. The final stop is Maras, renowned for its salt mines. The "Salineras" are a marvel of Inca engineering, with cascading salt pools built into cliffsides offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Urubamba River below. The tour concludes by dropping you off at your hotel in the Sacred Valley, where you have the evening free to relax.

    The Magic of Machu Picchu

To reach Machu Picchu you'll leave early from your hotel to arrive as the National Park opens and witness the morning clouds lift off the ruins and experience the site's true mystique. Your private guide will accompany you to the Guard Shack at Machu Picchu where you'll get the best view as the sun rises above the surrounding mountains and lighting up this World Wonder, as well as an extended tour and explanation of the history, surrounding areas, and the sacred legends. Machu Picchu is an awe-inspiring 15th-century Inca citadel located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, perched on a 2,430-meter (7,970-foot) mountain ridge. Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas," it's the most recognizable symbol of the Inca Empire. Built in the mid-1400s, the exact purpose of Machu Picchu remains a mystery. Theories range from a royal palace to a religious retreat. It was abandoned just over a century later after the Spanish conquest. Hidden by dense jungle, it wasn't rediscovered by the West until 1911. It is a showcase of Incan engineering marvels such as terraces, temples, and water channels. It's divided into different sectors, each with unique structures and purposes. Later take the train on to Cusco through the dramatic landscape of the Sacred Valley. Having acclimatized to the altitude the last few days, Cusco's altitude (11,150ft. above sea level) should be no problem at all at this point, allowing you to really get out and enjoy the town this evening, or get some rest at one of our lovely boutique hotels in Cusco.
