about this tour

about this tour

This trip provides a grounded introduction to Brazil’s landscapes and regions. It begins in Rio de Janeiro, where after arrival you explore historic streets, enjoy views from Corcovado and Sugarloaf Mountain, and settle into your hotel with time at leisure. From Rio you travel to Foz do Iguaçu with a few nights near Iguaçu Falls in the subtropical rainforest, where guided walks offer panoramic views of the waterfalls and the Devil’s Throat deep within Iguaçu National Park. You visit the Amazon rainforest, flying to Manaus and then to a quiet eco-lodge surrounded by jungle. Days here include guided walks, early mornings with birdsong, river activities, and discussions on indigenous life and wildlife. Meals feature fresh local ingredients. The journey continues to Brazil’s northeast coast with time in Olinda and Recife. In Olinda, explore cobbled streets lined with colonial houses, churches, and artisan studios that uphold long-standing crafts and traditions. In Recife you’ll see historic waterways, neighbourhood markets, the first synagogue in the Americas, and streets where local music and craft culture remain part of daily life. There’s time to try regional dishes and engage with the residents. Throughout the itinerary, guided activities are balanced with free time, from forest mornings and national park walks to coastal street strolls. This schedule gives you space to take in Brazil’s rainforest, city highlights, waterfalls, and coastal culture at a comfortable pace.

The Iguaçu Falls are among the most impressive natural sites in South America, often compared to Victoria Falls in Africa. Vast volumes of water plunge into a deep gorge known as the Devil’s Throat, creating a constant cloud of mist and a low rumble that fills the air. Your tour features a few nights at this location which features the Iguaçu National Park, followed by a drive through sub-tropical forest. A guided walking trail then leads into the canyon, offering you several panoramic viewpoints across the falls.

    Sugarloaf Mountain and Corcovado

The tour begins in the Cosme Velho district aboard a cog-and-pinion railway cart. The carriage climbs the steep, forested hillside to the summit of Corcovado, home to the iconic Christ the Redeemer monument. While the statue is the main draw, the sweeping views of Copacabana, Ipanema, and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon leave a lasting impression and deserve a moment of quiet appreciation. The journey then winds back down through the green expanse of the Tijuca Forest Reserve, past streams and small waterfalls. A brief stop allows for photos at the famous Mário Filho Stadium—better known as Maracanã—and the Sambódromo, the heart of Rio’s Carnival parade. Lunch is enjoyed at a traditional Brazilian churrascaria, where generous servings of grilled meats are served continuously at the table. The tour continues to the Urca neighbourhood, one of the city’s older districts, nestled at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain. From here, a cable car first ascends Morro da Urca, then continues to the top of Sugarloaf, nearly 400 metres above sea level. The scenery from both stages is striking, with panoramic views of Guanabara Bay, Copacabana, and Christ the Redeemer. The experience is especially memorable if timed with the setting sun.

    Exploring Rio's Historic Centre

Rio’s city centre blends architectural styles from different eras, where Portuguese colonial buildings and Renaissance influences stand beside modern skyscrapers. This walking tour, combined with public transport (metro and bus), offers an authentic experience of daily life in the city, much like a local resident—or "carioca." The tour begins at Cinelandia Square, home to landmarks such as the Opera House, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Town Hall, and the National Library. From there, you'll visit the striking São Sebastião Cathedral, followed by the ornate colonial churches of São Antônio and São Francisco da Penitência. A short break is taken at the Colombo patisserie, known for its art nouveau interiors and traditional treats. The route continues with a visit to the Royal Portuguese Reading Chamber, an architectural gem filled with wooden balconies and thousands of books. Next stops include the lively Uruguaiana market, Praça XV de Novembro, and the former Imperial Palace. You’ll also see the State of Rio Parliament and the historic Nossa Senhora do Carmo cathedral. The walk winds through the old passageway of Travessa do Comércio before ending at the grand church of Nossa Senhora da Candelária—an impressive landmark to close the day.

Rio's Bohemian Santa Teresa Walking Tour

The day begins with a walking tour through Rio’s Santa Teresa district, known for its cobbled streets and early 20th-century houses perched on a hillside above Guanabara Bay and the city centre. This neighbourhood, often associated with artists, musicians, and writers, has a distinct charm and an easygoing pace that sets it apart from the rest of the city. Along the way, you’ll find a mix of small restaurants, laid-back bars, and independent shops that continue to draw both locals and visitors. While much of the tour is on foot, part of the route includes a ride on Santa Teresa’s vintage tram, which crosses the iconic Arcos da Lapa aqueduct en route to this hilltop area. Back on foot, the tour continues through quiet lanes and leafy corners, stopping at places like the famous Selarón Steps—a vibrant staircase covered in colourful tiles from around the world—and Parque das Ruínas, a cultural hub with one of the best panoramic views over the bay. After the guided portion, enjoy free time to explore more of the area at your own pace or relax by the beach. In the evening, head to nearby Lapa for music, dancing, and a lively introduction to Rio’s night scene.

    Rio to Iguaçu Falls

With the main highlights of Rio experienced, it’s time to continue your journey. A private transfer will collect you from your hotel and take you to the airport for your flight to Iguaçu. Originating in the Serra do Mar near Brazil’s Atlantic coast, the Iguaçu River stretches for over 1,000 kilometres before joining the Paraná River. Along the way, it carves through a vast national park shared by both Brazil and Argentina. The river reaches its most dramatic point at Iguaçu Falls, a spectacular stretch nearly 2,700 metres wide. This natural wonder is made up of around 275 individual drops, each contributing to the roar of water and rising spray. The most powerful section, known as the “Devil’s Throat,” features a sheer drop of over 80 metres. Here, water crashes down in a cloud of mist, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Upon arrival at Iguaçu airport, a private transfer will take you directly to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax or begin getting to know your new surroundings. Whether by the pool, on a quiet walk, or simply taking it all in, it’s a chance to unwind before discovering more tomorrow.

The Iguaçu Falls of Brazil Tour

This morning, you'll head to Iguaçu National Park for a relaxed excursion that combines a nature walk with views of one of South America’s most impressive natural sites. A private vehicle takes you from the park entrance to selected trails that cross the 1,700 km² reserve. The surrounding subtropical rainforest is home to a wide range of plant life, tall trees, and around 400 bird species. Along the well-maintained walkways, you’ll stop at several lookout points offering wide-angle views of the falls—ideal for photos and quiet observation. The most dramatic section, known as the Devil’s Throat, is clearly visible from multiple angles. Here, water drops over 80 metres, creating a constant cloud of mist that rises high above the ground. After the walk, be prepared for a change of pace with a boat tour that brings you closer to the falls. The trip begins with a short, two-kilometre ride in an open-top jeep through the forest. A 500-metre walk leads to the riverbank, where you’ll board a specially designed boat. From there, the ride continues upriver, through rougher water and into the spray at the base of the falls—an exciting way to finish the day.

Full Day Tour of Iguaçu Falls in Argentina

Today, enjoy a full-day visit to the Argentinian side of the Iguaçu Falls and National Park. The day begins at the Visitors’ Centre, which provides useful background on the local plant and animal life found throughout the area. From there, a small train offers an easy and practical way to move through the park. The route links three stations: Central Station (next to the Visitors’ Centre), Cataratas Station for access to both the lower and upper trails, and Devil’s Throat Station, which leads to the most well-known part of the falls. The 7-kilometre route takes about 20 minutes, following the Iguazú River at a gentle speed, with occasional stops if animals cross the tracks. The park’s three trails are clearly marked. The Green Trail is a short 650-metre walk through native vegetation. From Cataratas Station, the Upper (1,700 m) and Lower (1,400 m) Trails offer wide-ranging views from several platforms. The final section of the Lower Trail brings you closer to the base of the falls, where you can feel the strength of the water as it crashes below the Devil’s Throat. After walking the trails, you’ll return to your accommodation in the evening.

    Transfer to Manaus

This morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Manaus. On arrival, a private vehicle will take you to your hotel, where you will spend the night before continuing your journey into the Amazon. If time allows, a guided tour of Manaus can be arranged. The city grew during the rubber boom in the late nineteenth century and still retains much of its character from that time. A visit to the famous Teatro Amazonas opera house is recommended, a striking building that reflects the prosperity of that era. Another stop could be the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market, located by the port, where a wide variety of local produce is sold. You will find everything from exotic fruits and medicinal herbs to large freshwater fish brought in from the Amazon River. This market remains an important hub for the local community and offers a glimpse into everyday life. After the tour, return to your hotel to relax and prepare for the next part of your trip. Manaus provides a practical and interesting starting point for those heading into the surrounding rainforest, combining historical features with the energy of a working river city.
