Khor Virap - Angels Canyon - Areni Cave Village

Today the first visit is to the historic Khor Virap Monastery (4th-18th centuries), where Gregory the Illuminator, who introduced Christianity to Armenia, was imprisoned for 13 years when it served as a prison. The monastery offers breathtaking views of the sacred Mount Ararat, an enduring symbol of Armenia. Near the village of Vedi, explore the mesmerizing Angels Canyon, a hidden gem with striking red and striped rock formations flanking both sides of the narrow path. The scenic 11-kilometer loop trail winds through the canyon, offering a chance to spot eagles and turtles along the way. Due to the heat, it’s best visited in spring or autumn. (Hiking time: 2.5 hours). Next, continue to Areni Village and the Areni Cave. This cave, largely unexplored, consists of three rooms and has yielded significant archaeological discoveries, including metal knives, fruit seeds, rope, and pottery dating back to 4200-3500 BC. Most notably, the world's oldest leather shoe (over 5,500 years old) was found here, along with the oldest known wine cellar, which dates back more than 6,000 years.

Yeghegis - Noravank - Gnishik River Gorge - Sevan - Dilijan

The Gorge of the Gnishik River, part of the Arpa Nature Reserve, is home to nearly 900 plant species and about 525 animal species, including the impressive Armenian mouflon, a mountain-climbing expert native to Armenia. As you hike through the gorge, you might spot a herd of these animals—or find yourself distracted by the stunning rocky walls that make for perfect photo opportunities! The Arpa Environmental Foundation has placed informational signs along the trail to educate hikers about the region’s flora, fauna, and cultural sites. The tour continues to Noravank, a 12th-century monastery nestled among dramatic cliffs in a winding gorge. This is the only monastery in Armenia featuring a unique sculpture of God the Father. Afterward, we head to Lake Sevan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, known for its crystal-clear blue waters and breathtaking scenery. While there, visit Sevanavank Monastery, located on the Sevan Peninsula. Built in the Middle Ages, around the 10th century, only one of its two monasteries remains intact. We end the day in Dilijan, strolling along Sharamberyan Street, lined with museums, souvenir markets, and charming small shops. You’ll also see traditional wooden houses with beautifully carved balconies, characteristic of this picturesque town.

Fioletovo - Tsover Lake - Dsegh

After breakfast at the hotel in Yenokavan, the day begins with a visit to a Molokan house. Molokans are part of a distinct Christian sect that originated in the Russian Empire in the 18th century. Known for their modest lifestyle, Molokans value honesty, hard work, and simplicity. They avoid the pursuit of wealth, instead focusing on helping neighbors and friends. Their homes, though small and simple, are impeccably clean and well-kept. Most Molokans engage in agriculture and animal husbandry, and they are particularly famous for their homemade sauerkraut, a staple in their diet and culture. Following the visit, the journey continues to Tsover Lake, also known as "Dsegi Tsover," located about 3 km southeast of the village of Dsegh. The lake, surrounded by dense forests to the south, enhances its natural beauty and creates a serene, picturesque setting. Arevatsag Gorge - Yerevan

After breakfast and check-out, you will depart for Yerevan, with a stop at the scenic Arevatsag Gorge. The rivers Dzoraget, Debed, and Pambak carve the lush Lori region into three sections, meeting at a spectacular canyon that appears as a vast fissure in the landscape from above. In a bend of the Dzoraget River stands a towering rock formation known as Arevatsag, or "Sunrise" Canyon. You can hike down into the valley or opt for an off-road vehicle to explore the area. While this is one of the most popular spots, the canyon offers many other hidden gems waiting to be discovered. For the adventurous, whitewater rafting is available in the nearby rivers. Spring offers a vibrant display of greenery, while summer brings comfortable weather. After exploring the gorge, continue to Yerevan for an overnight stay.

Geghard Monastery - Garni Temple - Symphony of Stones - Lavash Cookery & Lunch - Gum Market

Today begins with a visit to Geghard Monastery, named after the legendary lance that pierced Christ’s body. While its origins are unclear, the current complex dates back to the mid-13th century. Next, we explore Garni Temple, Armenia’s only surviving Pagan-era structure, built in the 1st century AD and dedicated to Mihr, the god of cleanliness. Though destroyed by an earthquake in 1679, it was restored in 1975. From there, we drive to the Symphony of Stones, a breathtaking basalt rock formation near Garni, where nature has sculpted columnar shapes resembling an orchestra of standing stones. Afterward, we visit a local home for lunch and take part in making lavash, Armenia’s traditional flatbread, baked in a ground oven called a tonir. Recognized by UNESCO in 2015, lavash is a staple of Armenian cuisine. Returning to Yerevan, we stop at the Gum Market, a lively spot near Tashir trading center, open daily. Here, vendors offer fresh produce, meats, spices, dried fruits, cheeses, pickles, and, of course, lavash.
